When approaching a girl, make sure you compliment her with something very specific and unique to her.

Don't say "Hi, I like your eyes". That's lame.

Instead, say something like "I love your blue eyes. That shirt makes them even more blue :)"

If you compliment her purse or jewelry or something, tell her you would like to get something similiar to that for one of your good friends who has a birthday coming up. It doesn't sound like you are directly hitting on her.
